I watched my first NASCAR
race with my dad when I was only 7. Since then, I’ve been hooked on the sport.
Some of my favorite memories are when Dale Earnhardt finally won the Daytona 500
in 1998 and when Dale Earnhardt Jr. won the Winston in 2000. I moved to North
Carolina in 2002 and since then, I’ve been able to go to a lot more tracks,
which is a dream come true. Thanks to my adventurous friends, perhaps some
charm, and the desire to immerse ourselves in NASCAR, I’ve been in victory lane
with Kasey Kahne for his first truck win, heard the National Anthem from pit
road in Darlington, talked with Rusty Wallace on the starting grid at
Martinsville, driven the track at Charlotte, and been featured with my friend,
Erica, on a NEXTEL commercial. Erica and I were also pictured in American
Thunder magazine as well as the Athlon Preview. It seems that every
time we make the trip to the track, something exciting happens.
A few months ago, I moved
to Charlotte, which guarantees that I’ll always be able to attend at least three
races per year. This year, I’d like to add Richmond and Atlanta to races that
I’ve attended. My favorite races to watch on TV are the Daytona 500, Talladega
races, Bristol, and Richmond.
Most of my friends and I
are recent graduates of master’s programs at East Carolina University and are
beginning our careers. It’s made it difficult to continue our trek to many
NASCAR races, but plans for this year include Atlanta, Richmond, Daytona over 4th
of July, all the Charlotte races, and hopefully Martinsville.
Someday, we’ll make it to
Bristol.
