ABC
and Gillette
are going to
team up in a
Nascar based
reality
show. “Fast
Cars and
Super Stars:
Gillette
Young Guns
Celebrity
Race.” will
have drivers
Jimmie
Johnson,
Kurt Busch,
Carl
Edwards,
Kasey Kahne,
Jamie
McMurry and
Ryan Newman
teaching
various
sport and
entertainment
stars how to
drive a Cup
car. John
Elway,
William
Shatner and
Serena
Williams are
some of the
celebrity
drivers.
Sponsor
conflicts
have been
reported and
will
hopefully
spin this
show out.
Mark Martin
and Ginn
Racing have
announced
that Martin
will run the
Pepsi 400 on
July 7 at
Daytona
International
Speedway.
The addition
puts
Martin’s
limited 2007
Nextel Cup
schedule at
23 for the
season. “We
were pretty
sure that we
might add it
for a while,
but after
the car that
the guys
gave me on
Sunday and
with as much
fun that we
had in the
500, I just
don’t see
any reason
not to go
back Daytona
and see if
we can’t
finish the
job in
July.”
Loosing by
two feet was
fun? Good
luck in July
Mark.
International
Speedway Corp. (ISC)
announced
Tuesday that
it's exploring
the pursuit of a
public-private
partnership to
build a speedway
near Denver
International
Airport. ISC is
evaluating
1,300-acre
parcels of land
in the area for
a track that
would seat about
75,000. ISC,
which owns 12
tracks that host
Nextel Cup
events,
abandoned plans
in December to
build a track on
Staten Island.
The company
remains
committed to a
speedway in the
New York area,
and France said
he remains
optimistic.

The recent cheating scandal at
Daytona has cost team owner Ray Evernham a lot. Lead driver
Kasey Kahne will lose 50 driver points and have his crew chief
suspended for 4 races. Teammates Elliott Sadler and Scott Riggs
will lose 25 driver points and also have their crew chiefs
suspended for 4 races. Mr. Evernham will lose a total of 100
owner points (50 for Kahne, 25 each for Sadler and Riggs) all
for “air improperly ducted into the car.” All parties involved
deny any deliberate attempt to cheat. Sadler and Riggs had holes
drilled into the fastners that attach the spoiler to the car in
an attempt to bleed air out if the trunk. That seems pretty
deliberate to me. Time for a reality check guys. By the way
Roush driver Matt Kenseth is in the same boat.
In another cheating incident Michael Waltrip has had his Toyota
confiscated for a foreign substance found in his manifold. Team
Waltrip says it’s just oil blowby. Nascar seems to think it’s
sterno or some other substance used to increase combustion. I’m
betting on Nascar. Lee White, the senior vice president for
Toyota Racing Development had this to say. "We hold ourselves to
a high standard and we hold our teams to high standards. We hope
we've picked the right ones."
Tony Stewart has six top 10 finishes (including two wins and
one second) in the last six races at Daytona.
Dale Earnhardt Jr. has six top ten finishes (including one win
and one second) in the last seven races here.
Watch out for Clint Boyer at Daytona. Clint only raced here
twice and has managed a top ten finish each time (sixth and
tenth) His average finish position of eight is the best of all
drivers.
JJ Yeley on the other hand does not fair so well at Daytona. His
average finish position of 39th is the worst of all
drivers.

Martin has one win, three top-five and six top-10 finishes in 13
starts at California. He also has led 271 laps – second only to Jeff
Gordon’s 455 – and has an average finish of 13.7. Martin also now
leads the NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series with 36 consecutive weeks in the
top 10. He’s scheduled to run 22 races for Ginn Racing this season.
Seven out of the last 10 races at California have bee won from
outside the top 10 starting positions. In all 13 races here, no one
has won from positions 1 or 2. Starting position may not be to
important here. Matt Kenseth won from 31st here last
year.
Carl Edwards has four top five and five top ten finishes in the last
five races at California Speedway, the most of all drivers. In those
same five races, he has never finished worse than sixth.
Stremme struggles at California. He has only raced in two Nextel Cup
races here but has yet to finish better than 33rd.
Matt Kenseth is the defending Auto Club 500 champion and has one
win, three top five, and six top 10 finishes in his career at
California.

Mark Martin has 3 top 5 finishes in the
first three races this year and is off to a great start. In his
Nextel cup career at Atlanta Martin has 2 wins, 13 top 5, and 21
top 10 finishes. Mark has led 924 laps at Atlanta, 4th
for all active drivers.
Bobby Labonte has six wins in his career
at Atlanta Motor Speedway, the most of all active drivers. Bobby
also has 12 top 5 and 13 top 10 finishes to his credit here.
Eight of the last ten races at Atlanta
motor Speedway have been won from a top ten starting position
and Tony Stewart won last Octobers race from eleventh place. In
the history of the track 78% of the winners come from the top
ten starting position.
In 2001 Kevin Harvick managed a first and
a third place finish at Atlanta. Since then he hasn’t done crap.
His best finish was nineteenth in 2003 and he has an average
finish position of 29.8 over the last ten races here.
